New Hampshire Poetry Out Loud 2011 Professional Development Orientation Day:  September 22, 2010—TODAY

MANDATORY SESSION for schools participating in New Hampshire Poetry Out Loud 2011. Each school must have at least one contact person to coordinate that school's competition.

Session takes place at John Stark Regional High School in Weare from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on September 22.

Commissioner’s Roundtable on Cultural & Heritage Tourism: September 22, 2010—TODAY

Join Van McLeod, commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Cultural Resources and members of the cultural and heritage tourism industry for a roundtable discussion, “Using statistics to tell your story.” Special guest: Mark Okrant, Professor of tourism management and director of the Institute for New Hampshire Studies at Plymouth State University.

Roundtable takes place at the Flying Monkey Movie House & Performance Center in Plymouth, NH, from noon-2 p.m.

Conference for Teaching Artists: “The Play is the Thing: The Serious Work of Play”: September 23, 2010

The critical importance of play in learning and human development is increasingly recognized, but we seem to have less and less space and time for it. This conference looks at the ways teaching artists can be leaders in supporting play – and the creativity it inspires – with learners of all ages and in their own lives.

Takes place at various arts venues in Brattleboro, VT, September 23, 2010, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

2010 Nonprofit Leadership Summit, “Navigating this New World”: September 24, 2010

Four extraordinary national experts and respected statewide nonprofit leader John E. Hoffman, Jr. will be keynote speakers at the NH Center for Nonprofits’ 2010 Leadership Summit.  Their sessions will focus on pivotal strategies essential to navigating this new world: intentional collaboration, fiscal strategy, measuring results and leveraging technology. 

The Leadership Summit takes place at the Center of NH in Manchester, September 24 from 8:00 a.m. – 4 p.m.

New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) Public Art Discussion Series: September 24, 2010

TOPIC: Public Art Commissions: The Finalist Round. Features Lynn Basa, public artist, faculty member at the Art Institute of Chicago and author of The Artists Guide to Public Art. Session includes a refresher on responding to Requests for Qualifications (RFQs). Attendees will participate in hands-on exercises with current RFQs, listen to winning finalist presentations from Lynn and Boston area artist Ralph Helmick.

Takes place at the Villa Victoria Center for the Arts in Boston, September 24, 2010, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

All levels of public art experience are welcome! Space is limited.
